Spicy Thai Green Curry at The Kings Arms

When I was a kid, I was very weird when it came to food preferences. According to my mom, my favourite things to eat ranged from raw cabbage to stewed octopus, which are not popular dishes amongst small kids. However, I didn’t like candy (still don’t) and I absolutely loved spicy food (still do).

Despite not being a picky eater and always up for trying new things, I was never a fan of any type of Asian cooking. I hated sushi, Chinese food, Thai food, curry – everything. I remember going to a Chinese restaurant that my parents really liked and always ordering chicken and fries… how embarrassing. Even my sister who is the pickiest of eaters ate Chinese. But one day something clicked and I went from hating it to absolutely loving it. So when I moved to London last year I loved the idea of having so many options to choose from when it came to Asian cooking!

One of my absolute favourites is Curry, more specifically; Green Curry. So I was very happy when I was introduced to “The King’s Arms”, a classic English pub in the Waterloo Area. My ex-coworkers referred to it as “a hidden gem”, and I can totally see why! It looks like a normal pub from the outside, but there’s a lot more to it.

The curry is delicious, relatively cheap (for London prices) and the portion size is very reasonable. I have never been to India so to be honest I have no idea what real curry tastes like, but this one tastes pretty good compared to other curries I’ve had. I also love the fact that the place is sort of hidden, and is never horribly busy – or at least never busy the times I’ve been, and I usually go Friday afternoons.

I’ve tried looking them up on Social Media, but can’t find them on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. I might not be looking right, but if it is true that they have no social media presence, then this is a perfect example of the power of word-of-mouth when both the service and food is good.

So if you’re ever in the Waterloo Area and are not too sure where to eat, give The King’s Arms a try!
