Avocado Toast at Farm Girl Cafe

You know those really, really annoying people that spend five minutes taking a thousand pictures of their dish at a restaurant? Well, I’m one of those people – especially if there is avocado involved. If this is the case, I´ll move stuff around the table until it looks Instagram-worthy, ask my friends to pretend that they’re eating, or I’ll move the dish to a different table where the lighting is better. And you don’t even want to know the lengths I would go to if there´s a poached egg involved…

If you can relate to this and proclame yourself a fan of avocado-on-toast pictures, then I’m sure you’ve heard of Farm Girl Cafe before, or have at least have encountered their 32 thousand follower Instagram account. In fact, whilst I was waiting in the queue to be seated (yes, if you decide to go there on a Saturday afternoon, expect to queue for at least 30 minutes) I overheard quite a few people – both British and foreign – saying that they knew about the place because of Instagram. Talk about a powerful marketing tool…

Surprisingly, despite the amount of people that were there, the staff was very efficient and we were eating within five minutes after we had been seated. If you hadn’t guessed it by now, both Kate and I ordered the avocado on toast and a poached egg. I also got a side of smoked salmon because I was feeling sophisticated – and it looks good on pictures too. For drinks, I ordered a Rose Latte, which is basically a normal latte with added infused rose water and some rose petals on top. Told you I was feeling sophisticated. For dessert, Kate and I shared a carrot cake – she had never tried it (WHAT!?) so that was the perfect excuse to get one.

The food was good, a bit overpriced but good. Which is understandable for a cafe that’s located on Portobello Road, at the heart of Notting Hill. Although the location is near-perfect, I think the main features that make Farm Girl stand out from the rest is their amazing online presence and the beautiful presentation of their dishes.

Have you been to Farm Girl Cafe before? If so, do you think you’ll be coming back? What do you think about the food?

By the way – if you are reading this and you know how cafes/restaurants poach their eggs to make them look so round and neat, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
