I like to make lists for absolutely everything, so of course I have a list of places that I need to try, which sadly grows a lot quicker than it decreases. Up until now, I have only been sharing with you the places that I try from that list, but not the ones I add and I’m yet to try. So I’ve decided to start a new bi-monthly series, ´Three new places you need to try this weekend’, where I’ll share places that are brand new so you can check them out too!
Farm girl pop-up store at No1 Carnaby Street by Sweaty Betty, 1st Floor, 1 Carnaby Street, London, W1 9QF
I am personally not the biggest Sweaty Betty fan. Or actually, I am not the biggest fan of their prices. But I did get a little excited when I heard about their new flagship store, as Farm Girl have teamed up with them and have also opened inside.
I absolutely love their Portobello Road site, but sometimes I’m not in the mood the get on a train and travel to the other side of London to taste one of their lovely açai bowls, so it’s great that they’re closer to where I live now!
Santo Remedio, 152 Tooley St, London SE1 2TU
When I thought that the Bermondsey food-scene couldn’t get any better, they open Santo Remedio, a Mexican restaurant aiming to serve proper Mexican food. The kind found on markets and at Mexican homes like mine, not the Wahaca kind (sorry!). The menu doesn’t have either fajitas or burritos, but instead you’ll be able to chow down on pibil tacos, carnitas tacos, elote, frijoles negros and all the real stuff.
Also, according to the Evening Standard: “this is quite possibly the best Mexican restaurant in London”. Say no more!
Ichibuns, 22 Wardour Street, London W1D 6Q
If you’re a burger fan like myself, you definitely need to check out Ichibuns, a Japanese inspired eatery selling everything from ramen bowls to burgers. I am personally very excited to try it, particularly on one of their burgers: The Hokkaido. Its two patties (YES, TWO!) are made with a mix of wagyu and prime British grass-fed beef, supported by blue cheese fondue, truffle oil, grilled red onions, sautéed shiitake mushrooms. It’s basically all my favorite things in a burger. Can’t wait.
They’re opening tomorrow, 8th September, and the great news is that they’ll be giving out 500 free Ichiban burgers to eat-in or take-away from 5pm. Guess who’ll be queueing to get one…
